WHAT we do
Curling Canada’s core responsibilities centre on organizing national championships, growing the game at the grassroots level, and providing support programs and services for its Member Associations (MAs).
Championships
Curling Canada organizes numerous national championships annually, including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Montana’s Brier. These events cater to a wide range of athletes, from grassroots to high-performance, providing a clear pathway for curlers at all levels to compete for national titles. Key championships include events for men, women, juniors, seniors, mixed doubles, wheelchair curling, and collegiate/university athletes.
Curling Canada manages marquee events that are significant financial drivers for the organization, generating revenue to support its strategic goals and initiatives across all aspects of the sport.
Programs and Services
Curling Canada provides a wide range of programs and services to its MAs, focusing on both grassroots development and high-performance excellence:
- Technical Development: Resources include instructional manuals, coaching certification (NCCP), officiating training, and ice-making guidance. Additionally, Curling Canada offers programs and strategies to welcome new participants to the sport and equip them with the skills to learn and enjoy curling.
- High-Performance Support: Programs target and train elite athletes, coaches, and officials, including those identified through NextGen initiatives. Support includes resources for Paralympic and Olympic team training, and advanced coaching development (Levels 4 & 5).
- Business Support: Curling Canada aids clubs and MAs through initiatives such as Business of Curling, which provides workshops and guides for operational efficiency, and financial aid programs, such as revenue-sharing from ticket sales.
Partnerships
Curling Canada actively collaborates with national, regional, and provincial organizations to enhance the sport’s reach and accessibility. Key partnership initiatives include:
- Establishing Regional Development Centres to improve program delivery.
- Promoting youth curling through partnerships with schools and youth organizations.
- Expanding curling’s reach to diverse and inclusive audiences, focusing on underrepresented groups and communities.
For the Love of Curling
Through its charitable initiatives, Curling Canada supports several key initiatives to grow the sport:
- Youth Programs: Focused on introducing curling to young Canadians and providing resources to foster their long-term engagement in the sport.
- Scholarships: Offering financial assistance to student-athletes balancing their education and curling ambitions. These scholarships support the next generation of curlers both on and off the ice.
Curling Canada’s integrated approach ensures the sport’s growth and sustainability while fostering excellence and inclusivity across all levels.
