Curling was brought to Canada from Scotland over 200 years ago. The oldest sports organization in North America is the Royal Montreal Curling Club, incorporated in 1807. We’ll take props for being one of the longest lasting sports out there! It wasn’t until the 1900’s that curling started to become a community hub. A place where people would gather to connect, bond, and be together. That sense of community remains in the sport today within curling clubs across this great nation.

Canada has won the most medals in the Olympics and Paralympics of any country in the world, in curling, since it became an Olympic sport in 1998. Long before that, the very first Brier took place in 1927. It’s truly one of the only sports in Canada that, at the professional level, see true Canadians competing in this country.

We are decorated. Celebrated. The very first sport in the world that embraced gender equality. In fact, you’ll find today, the women’s Scotties Championships to be the most watched curling event in the country. We’ll also take props for putting women on the pedestal in sports, first.

Did you know 90% of the curlers in the world play in Canada? We rock! Played on ponds, lakes, in community centres, arenas, and curling rinks from coast to coast. The beautiful thing about this game is whether you’re 8 or 88, you can join this sport at any stage and deeply love it.

It is our mission at Curling Canada to bring this time-honoured sport to you and your community regardless of your age, race, identity, income, education or any other demographic statistic you can come up with. This game is for you. For your kids. Your friends. Your neighbours. You don’t have to be a professional athlete, endure impact, or be young to take up this sport. It’s right here waiting for you, whenever you’re ready for it.
